Pregnancy is a beautiful time! It is exciting to welcome a new baby into the world. However, it can also be a scary time, full of uncertainty. A prayer for a safe delivery is something that the mother and child will appreciate for the rest of their lives. Three beautiful prayers are included for you to pray every day for safe pregnancies and deliveries for all pregnant women.
Praying for a Healthy Pregnancy
Even for healthy women, pregnancy can bring on many health challenges. Because of this, it is so important to pray that a mother and child are healthy throughout the pregnancy. Just as you would say a prayer for safe delivery when birth is close, it can be equally powerful to pray every day for the healthy pregnancy of your loved one.
As a mother of four, I can recall how much I worried during my pregnancy. As much as I trusted in God, I had many fears about labor and delivery every single time. So throughout my pregnancy, I asked everyone around me to continue to say a short prayer for safe delivery. I had faith that every prayer, short and long, would help when my baby came.
Prayer for Safe Delivery in the Hospital
Since many women give birth in the hospital, a prayer for safe delivery can mean praying that the doctors and nurses are blessed with the wisdom to provide the best care. You can also pray that the health care specialists are patient with the process and do not force certain medical procedures to “speed things up.” Lastly, you can ask God that pregnant women respond well to any medications they may need.
Prayer for Safe Delivery During a Home Birth
I have given birth twice in a hospital, once at a birthing center with a midwife, and once at home. Without a doubt, my best birth experience was at home. I felt most comfortable and I knew that the chances of undesired interventions was slim. But I was still frightened that something could go wrong. For my home birth, I was due to deliver during winter. Since I live in the mountains and I had a history of quick labors, I was afraid that my midwife wouldn’t make it in time. And as I predicted, she didn’t. So, with the exception of my wonderful husband, I had an unassisted home birth.
I share this story because I don’t believe that I could have gotten through it without prayer. I prayed for strength and peace, which all mothers need, hospital or home.
When Complications are Likely
During a pregnant mother’s monthly check-ups, she often learns if there are more health risks involved or if complications are likely. Technology makes it easy to find out more and more about the health of the baby and what a mother can expect during labor and delivery. If a mother feels comfortable sharing specifics, pray for those intentions. For instance, pray that the mother does not worry over her gestational diabetes. Pray that the mother feels relief when her ankles are sore. Since all of these things can lead to a more challenging labor and delivery, praying that pregnancy symptoms are minimized can help for a safe delivery.
The Prayer I Said For My Safe Deliveries
I will never forget the seemingly endless research I did leading up to my fourth birth. I was determined to have a pain-free labor and delivery! Of the many sources I found, Full Joy Mom’s video on Youtube really helped me! In her video, she called on the Holy Spirit to take away her pain. I repeated some of the same phrases and prayers that she said and it worked! I highly recommend this video for anyone interested in pain-free childbirth or supernatural childbirth. Even if you or a pregnant woman you know does not feel she can endure pain-free child birth, this video is wonderful for shifting your mindset during labor and delivery. It opens a mother’s heart into thinking that the Holy Spirit can help with a safe delivery.

O Loving Father in Heaven,
Thank you for blessing us with the gift of new life. Thank you for the blessing of mothers in our lives, especially for [intention]. During this special time of preparation and waiting, we pray for the health and safety of this mother and child as well as all pregnant women and the children they carry. Please bless this mother and all mothers with a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. Bring peace and calm to these women during labor and delivery. Help them to turn to You during these times, calling on the Holy Spirit to bring them strength. We ask that you protect these mothers, Lord, so that they may continue to nurture and care for their new babies, raising them to love and serve you all the days of their lives. Please also bless those caring for them at this time. Amen.

Prayer for Safe Delivery – A Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary (Catholic)
O Blessed Virgin Mary,
I bring these petitions to you, asking you to watch over all pregnant women and mothers in our lives, especially for [intention]. As we await the joy of newborn babies, help us to live gracefully and faithfully as you did when you awaited the birth of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Help all pregnant women during their labor and delivery. We ask you to intercede on their behalf, asking your Son to keep them safe and to keep them and their babies healthy. Just as you trusted in the Lord when you said “Let it be done unto me according to thy word,” help us all to have faith as you did. Help all pregnant women to serve in their vocation of motherhood as you humbly did throughout your life. May these and all mothers love their children and Christ with their whole hearts. Amen.

Loving St. Joseph,
I come to you with an open, humble heart, praying for [intention] and for the safe labor and delivery of all pregnant women. Just as you sought to protect our Blessed Mother Mary and our Lord Jesus, please protect this mother and child as well as all mothers and children. St. Joseph, during a time of uncertainty, when labor and delivery can be scary for mothers and fathers, we ask that they trust in God the way you trusted in God when you were entrusted with the care of the Holy Family. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
